Lights in the Woods + Hot Chocolate Recipe

Lights in the Woods

One of our favorite things to do this time of year is look at Christmas lights. I have fond memories from years past of cozying up with a cup of hot chocolate or coffee and cruising the streets with family or friends. I know there are places all over Houston touting they have the best lights. You can find those top 10 lists all over the internet. This year we decided on our 3 favorite streets in the Woodlands.

3. How the Grinch Stole Christmas (June Breeze Place)

This is a fun Who-Ville street where yard signs depict the hobbies of children or family members of that residence. At the entrance to the street, be sure to tune in your radio to the street's station. And don't forget the photo op at the end!

2. Candy Cane Lane (Bethany Bend Circle)

Almost every house in this neighborhood has a candy cane in their front yard, each uniquely decorated. Look out for the world's largest Gingerbread inflatable while driving the loop. And don't forget to swing down the side streets!

1. Lights Galore (Cape Chestnut & Tangle Brush Drive)

This is the winner in our books every year. The majority of homes in this neighborhood participate in the festivities and there's SO much to see. We love the lights wrapped way up in the trees and swinging across the street. There's been an occasional Santa sighting so be on the lookout for him!

I'm including a super simple Hot Chocolate recipe I adapted from my friend Tamara.

I hope you have a blessed and Merry Christmas this year! ♥ Lisa

Homemade Hot Chocolate
(adapted from Tamara)

3/4 C sugar
2/3 C cocoa powder
2 pinches of salt
1 C water
8 C coconut milk (or milk of choice)
2 tsp vanilla

Combine sugar, cocoa, salt, and water in a small saucepan and bring to a low boil (tiny bubbles). Stir or whisk constantly for 2 minutes (keep stirring or it will burn!). Lower heat and add milk. Stir until heated. Remove from heat and add vanilla. For smaller children, add extra cold milk to their cup to cool it off. This recipe can be halved for smaller groups. OR, just make the chocolate sauce and then add it to your milk to make one cup at a time. Enjoy!
